Dana White is disappointed to say the least when it comes to the latest Ultimate Fighting Championship rankings.
White has expressed dissatisfaction with recent rankings, mostly regarding Jon Jones’ placement in pound-for-pound polls. Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has defended his title three times in less than two years and is currently the promotion’s pound-for-pound No. 1. But White insists Jones, who is virtually undefeated, should be at the top of the rankings despite not having fought since March 2023, when he returned after a three-year hiatus.
White’s ranking worries now extend beyond the Jones story. UFC chiefs are also disappointed in the recent ranking of light heavyweight title contender Khalil Rountree. Rountree was a surprise wild card entering the title fight against Alex Pereira despite being ranked No. 8 in the official UFC.com rankings. “War Horse” challenged the champion in the main event of UFC 307 on October 5th in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rountree suffered a brutal technical knockout in the fourth round, but proved his mettle by winning the first two rounds on all scorecards.
However, Rountree was unable to climb the light heavyweight ladder, earning White’s ire. The official UFC rankings, which began in 2013, are determined by a committee of media members. White has recently questioned the media’s understanding of the sport and slammed the entire system. It appears Mr. White intends to change something about that in the near future. White expressed his displeasure with Rountree’s rankings and said he is scheduling a meeting this week to change the ranking system.

Literally this week I ranked him They’re holding a meeting to try to fix it and gather all the mothers who don’t know anything and don’t do anything about it. Please stop it. So I hope we can fix this problem by the end of this week.”
