The MENA Chapter’s first Pro Fighters League card underwent major changes on weigh-in day.
PFL MENA is the most prestigious platform venture for fighters from the Middle East and North Africa region competing in a PFL season format. The debut match on May 10th was held at the Green Hall in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the weigh-in day card lineup was reorganized to 10 matches. Multiple fighters missed weights and the main event was changed as a result.
The card aims to spark a new wave in the region’s martial arts world and features featherweight and bantamweight fighters competing in a team wins and advances format. The main event was scheduled to pit Abdullah Al Qahtani (145.6) against Taha Bendaoud, but the latter missed weight by an undisclosed amount and was removed from the lineup. Instead, preliminary competitor Yazeed Hasanain (146.6) stepped up to the headliner spot, but he was 0.6 pounds short.
Additionally, Maroun Beragui (145.8) was expected to face Motas Askar, but Askar failed medical clearance. Beraguit will face off against Ahmed “Mido Mohamed” Rauf (145.2), who remains in the lineup despite a change in his previous pairing with Hassanian. Finally, Tariq Ismail (136.4) topped the bantamweight limit by 0.4 pounds before fighting Jalal Al Dajah (135.6). The PFL has not said whether heavyweight fighters Hassanian and Ismail will receive fines from their wallets during their respective bouts, as they do in PFL Europe, or whether they will automatically receive point deductions.
All four events of the PFL MENA season will be broadcast live on MBC Action and Shahid for fans across the region. The lineup will be streamed live on Dazn in Europe and Asia at 4:30pm GMT.
