As a backup fighter in the main event of UFC 308, Diego Lopez really wants the original fight to remain intact.
Max Holloway (26-6) will challenge Ilya Topria (15-0) for the featherweight title in the main event of UFC 308 this Saturday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. López is a reserve player, so he might have a chance to win the title if he has to replace someone, but the Brazilian is so excited about the fight that he doesn’t need to replace anyone. I hope. However, López is in perfect condition and ready to act as a substitute if needed.
“I’m really looking forward to watching the fight,” Lopez told MMAjunkie.com. “Hopefully everything will be over by Friday morning.”

Topria became the new 145-pound champion with a knockout win over Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 in February of this year. Meanwhile, Holloway earned an iconic buzzer-beater knockout win over Justin Gaethje in their BMF title bout at UFC 300 in April.
Lopez is currently on a five-fight winning streak, with three finishes. He is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Brian Ortega at UFC 306 in September. If everything goes according to plan on Saturday, Lopez is looking forward to facing Volkanovski. Volkanovski recently called for an interim title fight against the Brazilian at UFC 312 in Australia on February 9th. Lopez is willing to take on the challenge, whether it’s for an interim title or not. In his native “The Great”.
