Former title challenger Dominick Reyes returned after a year and a half absence, knocking out Dustin Jacoby in the co-main event of UFC Louisville.
After losing his unbeaten streak to Jon Jones in 2020 and deserving of both a decision loss and the belt, Reyes suffered brutal knockouts in three consecutive bouts, the final blow coming from a jab. After a hiatus from competition, Reyes returned to the ring against former Glory kickboxer Dustin Jacoby. Jacoby’s poor performances have caused him to fall out of the rankings, with his recent 1-3 record causing him to drop out of the rankings.
The early part of the bout was mostly an exchange of kicks. Both fighters aimed spin kicks at each other’s body, but Jacoby applied pressure and also landed low kicks to the legs. Dustin landed some good punches at first, but Reyes countered, sending Dustin staggering against the fence. Jacoby regained his footing, but was hit with a knee that nearly knocked the already slightly hurt Jacoby unconscious. Jacoby got up from the ground, but another onslaught from Reyes sent Jacoby falling on his face again, and the referee stopped the bout.
It was an emotional moment for Reyes, as he was given a big congratulations by a crowd that knew something of what he had gone through to get back to victory.
OFFICIAL RESULT: Dominick Reyes defeats Dustin Jacoby by TKO (knee and punches), Round 1, 2:00
