Zack Scroggin suddenly landed a tough first challenge in the UFC in the form of Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos at UFC Vegas 100.
Complicating matters, Scroggin, making the biggest step up of his career, missed the weigh-in at Friday’s official weigh-in and was one of two athletes not to weigh in.
This wasn’t a great start to his run in the UFC, but the sudden nature of the assignment may have given him some leeway. That being said, things took a turn for the worse when the welterweight wannabe’s bout (now a catchweight of 174 pounds) arrived on Saturday.
As the first round began, Zach Scroggin used a lot of low calf kicks to keep his opponent at bay. He couldn’t keep Zaleski dos Santos away for long and quickly landed a leg kick that connected with a right hand that dropped Scroggin. Brazil’s Zaleski dos Santos hit a ground-and-pound that Scroggin just covered. It didn’t take long for the referee to come in and save him.
The match lasted just over a minute, and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos has improved to 1 win, 1 loss, and 1 draw in his last three matches.
Official result: Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos def. Zack Scroggin TKO (ground and pound right hand), round 1, 1:15
