Junior Tafa was scheduled to face Chris Barnett in an entertaining heavyweight matchup at UFC Vegas 98 on Saturday. However, as Hurricane Milton hit Florida, Barnett, who lives in the affected area, was forced to leave the game and was replaced by four others. -0 Sean Sharaf makes his sudden promotional debut.
When the battle began, Sharaf advanced. He caught Tafa near the cage and landed a big right hand. Shortly after, Sharaf landed another quick one-two. Tafa was calm and fighting back. Sharaf went for a takedown, but Tafa blocked it with a scary fence grab. Sharaf tried another takedown and he landed it but couldn’t keep it there. As things started to calm down, Sharaf chose his shot and Tafa focused on waiting for his chance. Perhaps he waited too long for Sharaf to tee off with a combination. Tafa landed a left hook that caught Sharaf’s attention. Tafa increased his tempo and became more responsive when landing. Tafa seems to have completely emptied its gas tank out of nowhere. He allowed Sharaf a takedown and ended the round with Sharaf crushing him with ground and pound. The bell definitely saved Tafa from a TKO loss.
In the second round, Tafa came forward with a right hand. Tafa was gassing badly and Sharaf was just as tired. Tafa lands another right hand and Sharaf has a big reaction. Tafa threw a flurry of punches along the cage, but Sharaf missed the hook. But it wasn’t long before Tafa landed another right supporting Sharaf against Cage, who saw stars. At that moment, Tafa continued to throw relentless punches along the cage, including uppercuts, and did not let up. Although Sharaf did not go down, he did not protect himself and the referee eventually intervened.
Official result: Junior Tafa def. Sean Sharaf, TKO (punch), round 2, 2:15
