Ultimate Fighting Championship great Fabricio Werdum is preparing to transition into coaching as he ages.
At 47 years old, Werdum knows his time in the sport is coming to an end. Despite his last appearance being a bare-knuckle match against Junior dos Santos at Gamebred FC 5 in 2023, he’s not quite done yet. Although his schedule is predictably less packed considering he doesn’t fight regularly, Werdum is ready to train other fighters to give back to the sport in other ways. I’m happy. In an interview with Sherdog on Thursday, Werdum talked about who he aims to work with in the near future and what’s in store for him.
‘Vi Cavallo’ can be counted among the many fighters impressed by Jon Jones’ performance against Stipe Miocic in his recent fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, but he believes the standout competitor has an edge over Jones. He thinks he might be able to do what he needs to help him get back on his feet. That fighter plane? Alex Pereira considering the next test between Jones and Magomed Ankalaev.
“In both cases, [Pereira] there is a big opportunity [of being] It was withdrawn,” Werdum explained. “I would say it’s almost impossible not to throw against Jones. Jones was able to take it. [Daniel]
Cormier is down. What I’m saying is, unlike Miocic, expect the move to fall into a good spot. [who took heavy damage when taken
down]. The main goal of a good guard is to avoid being attacked. There I was able to help “Poatan” with a progressive guard. However, it will take at least two months. [Beating] It will be difficult for Jones to score points, but I think he can win by knockout if he uses my tactics. ”
While Werdum noted that he could beat Jones with Pereira’s help, he was taken aback by how well Jones had adapted to the heavyweight division. After just two fights, the former champion believes Jones is already one of the best fighters to ever do it at that weight.
“We have to include Fedor.”
[Emelianenko] [on my heavyweight Mount Rushmore];Jon Jones after defeating Miocic. “Minotauro” [Antonio
Rodrigo Nogueira] and [Mirko
Filipovic] “Cro Cop,” Werdum said, also suggesting Jones is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the history of the sport.
Even if his wish to help Pereira train doesn’t come true, Werdum is ready to focus on himself. The Brazilian says he is considering a pending fight offer in secret, which could cause a stir.
“My manager, Ali [Abdelaziz] We were not allowed to reveal the details,” Werdum hinted. “All I can say is this is a new MMA event and my opponent is also a former champion.”
