There was a time when the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt was revered as the most important. Each fighter works hard to advance in their career, and only when that happens do they consider themselves champions. However, today the situation is different. The importance of the belt in the WBC seems to be waning, and the blame for this lies entirely with the sanctioning body.
On May 4th, undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez will face Jaime Munguia. All of Canelo’s championship belts are on the line for this fight, but the WBC has introduced a new commemorative belt. However, fans remain dissatisfied, highlighting how useless these belts by the WBC are on a larger scale.

Last night, at the Salon Castillo of the Hotel Presidente in Mexico City, the WBC held a grand unveiling ceremony for the Grand Belt, titled “Tamaulipas Belt.” This belt was inducted into the Hall of Fame to commemorate the clash between two of the best Mexican fighters of this era.
WBC president Sulaiman Mauricio explained that the belt holds an important place for him as his parents are from Mexico. But at its core, he explained in a press release: Munguia has everything to gain, while Canelo has everything to keep as the king of boxing. Two Mexicans are once again attracting the attention of the whole world. When two Mexicans fight, they are fighting for respect, country, and neighborhood. Neither of them wants to go home as losers. ”

Recently, his lenient stance towards Canelo has come under fire. David Benavidez is the mandatory challenger for the WBC belt. However, in line with Canelo’s intention that he not fight Canelo, the body has not called for that fight. Based on this premise, the user took several swipes on the body.
😂 I will make any belt to make Canelo happy ☠️ He ducks Benavidez hard

Based on the same argument, another user highlighted that the body is clearly showing favoritism to Canelo by requesting multiple belts to commemorate many of Canelo’s fights.
