Heather Hardy’s martial arts career appears to be over.
Hardy, a former boxing champion and Bellator MMA veteran, was preparing for a May 11 bout with Christine Ferrea at BKFC, but Hardy struggled with his eyesight and was unable to eat or sleep at the start of camp. I couldn’t even do that. According to Hardy, her doctor’s examination revealed that she had suffered too many concussions during her martial arts career and that any more head injuries would permanently damage her eyesight. It has been found that there is a possibility of damage.
Hardy’s full Instagram post on the subject is below.
My struggle for May 11th is over. After the fight with Amanda last summer [Serrano], my vision remained blurry for several days. While she was still in Texas, she went for an MRI and eye exam and was diagnosed with sequelae of a concussion. I think it’s okay for 6 to 8 months. So basically we needed a fight and things weren’t going to get any better. My daughter is a college student. Everyone thinks I made millions in my career, but I didn’t. I was getting paid to keep that kid in the best neighborhood so that he could go to the best school. And so I had to put up a fight, and fast enough, a month into Christine’s training, all my vision deteriorated. I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, and was so weak that my weight dropped to 123 pounds. I didn’t tell anyone how bad it was, not my boyfriend, not my coach. I thought I could get through the 10 minute fight, but after a very light sparring session I didn’t see anything for two days. I hadn’t eaten or slept from Friday until Monday, so I knew I was too weak for anything like this. When I finally went to see a doctor, they told me I had too many concussions. When you get a concussion, part of your brain is destroyed and never grows back. Just imagine? Over the course of 10 years, I suffered significant brain damage. I can’t get it anymore, or I won’t be able to see it. Running, jogging, jumping rope, and hitting your head are prohibited.
Although Hardy did not officially announce her retirement within the post, her statement at the end of the post seemed to suggest that her martial arts career was over.
“So I said that,” Hardy wrote. “I know what that means.”
Nicknamed “The Heat,” Hardy amassed a record of 24 wins, 3 losses, and 1 no contest as a professional boxer, going undefeated in his first 23 fights and winning multiple championship belts in the process. . In her most recent appearance, she had multiple titles on the line when Hardy dropped a unanimous decision to Serrano in the co-main event of the Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz card in August of this year.
Hardy briefly entered MMA from 2017 to 2019, amassing a 2-2 record while competing under the Bellator banner. Ahead of his Bellator debut, Hardy revealed that the money he earned from promoting that fight would exceed what he had previously earned from boxing. Her last MMA appearance was on June 14, 2019 at Bellator 222, where she lost by first round TKO to Taylor Turner.
