Former Professional Fighters League heavyweight champion Bruno Capellozza has been suspended for one year after failing an out-of-competition drug test.
Capellozza tested positive for clomiphene and its metabolite desethylclomiphene in a urine sample collected on April 17, 2024. Clomiphene falls under the category of hormone and metabolic modifiers and is prohibited at all times under the PFL’s anti-doping policy. Capellozza will be eligible to return to active competition on April 17, 2025.
This marks the second failed drug test for Capellozza, who tested positive for drostanolone in connection with his PFL regular season bout against Matthaus Scheffl on April 7, 2023. As a result, Capellozza was suspended for nine months and his knockout against Scheffl was declared a no contest.
Capellozza returned to action for the first time since the sanctions in a PFL vs. Bellator Champions bout on Feb. 24, suffering a second-round submission loss to former Bellator light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov. Capellozza was notable for winning the PFL heavyweight title in 2021 and reeling off four straight wins during that season.
Capellozza is the second fighter to be suspended since the PFL began its partnership with USADA: in July, Gokhan Sarikham was suspended for one year after testing positive for clomiphene in two out-of-competition tests.
