He increased the volume and intensity of his shots in the second round, flying with body and head combinations to keep Szevczyk on the back foot. A head kick caught the Pole off guard and sent him crashing to the canvas, at which point Nurgocaj finished him off with a flurry of quick punches.
Nurgojai, 27, stopped eight of his first 10 opponents as a professional.
Meanwhile, Goat Shed Academy’s Montez defeated Carlos Calderon with an anaconda choke in the second round of an action-packed featherweight bout. Calderon (6-3, 0-1 DWCS) raised the white flag of surrender 2:38 into the second round.
Montez (11-1, 1-0 DWCS) conceded multiple takedowns in a frenetic first round that saw both fighters exchange fierce stand-ups. The Venezuelan stepped up in the midfield, beating Calderon with counter right hands and methodically chipping away at his resolve. Montez sat on a Peruvian tie, then transitioned to an anaconda choke, tightening the grip until his Elevation Fight Team-trained opponent surrendered.
This was the sixth submission victory of Montez’s career.
Further down the card, Agozi Combatives’ Finney kept his perfect professional record intact, taking care of Abdellah El-Ramy with punches in the first round of their middleweight bout. Er-Ramy (7-2, 0-1 DWCS) succumbed to the blows 4:10 into round one.
Finney (10-0, 3-0 DWCS) secured a takedown within the first 15 seconds and went to work. He floated back from mount, stuffed the Moroccan-born Spaniard from top position, made some serious passes with an arm triangle choke, and unleashed ground-and-pound. Finney went backwards late in the first period, flattened Rebel Pride Gym’s export, and loosened him up with a thumping punch until the job was done.
The setback is Alami’s first since 2019, ending his winning streak at six.
Finally, Martinez used a flurry of leg kicks, powerful counter punches and excellent lateral movement to earn a unanimous decision victory over undefeated Xavier Franklin in three rounds at bantamweight. All three cageside judges gave the fight the same score, 30-27 (11-1, 1-0 DWCS) for Martinez.
Franklin (5-1, 0-1 DWCS) held his own in spurts, but staggered the Bonebreakers MMA move with a right hand in the second round and a hard left hook in the third that left him with a small cut under his right eye. Inflicted a wound – but lacked the weaponry needed to give the opponent real pause. Martinez destroyed the Peak Fighting titleholder’s base and took out the pain on his feet with a constant stream of kicks to his lower legs. Franklin advanced as the match progressed, but was unable to advance in critical conditions.
Martinez, 26, has won seven straight fights.
