Former Cage Warriors champion Jordan Vucenik made his Octagon debut on Saturday at UFC Abu Dhabi, facing his first opponent, Guram Kutateladze.
Vucenic will undoubtedly have his hands full against a fighter who has shared the cage with the likes of Mateusz Gamlot and Elf Brenner.
The fight started with a feeling out for the first minute. Vucenik let go with confidence, moving forward and landing on his feet. Vucenik went first and landed combinations. Kutateladze was content to land kicks on the outside. Vucenik was busy moving around, while Kutateladze mostly just waited. Kutateladze also took damage, being taken down by a laser-like right hand from Vucenik. Kutateladze was left with a gash above his left eye. Vucenik did not do any damage from above, but Kutateladze finished the round on his back.
Round two began with Vucenik riding the momentum of round one. Kutateladze was landing punches, but Vucenik didn’t care. Vucenik’s speed was obvious and it was very difficult for Kutateladze to take him down. Vucenik defended but got some nice elbows from Kutateladze in the clinch. Vucenik didn’t let Kutateladze rest, forcing him against the cage. The two exchanged control in the clinch before breaking away. With a minute left, Kutateladze landed a left hook to the body and a clean liver kick. Kutateladze then locked on the body and took him down to end the round.
In the final round, Vucenik started reaching for a takedown himself. Kutateladze used his wizards to quickly get to his feet and finally landed on Vucenik’s guard. Kutateladze was busy with hammerfists and tried to jump on his back. He barely managed to get a hook in as he nearly slipped off. With the body hook still in, Kutateladze maintained his position for the last minute and a half. The comeback was complete and Guram Kutateladze won the second and third rounds to secure the unanimous decision victory.
Official result: Guram Kutateladze defeats Jordan Vucenic via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
