Aljamain Sterling rates his performance at UFC 300 as his best.
Sterling (24-4 MMA, 16-4 UFC) had a strong showing in his featherweight debut, defeating Calvin Kattar (23-8 MMA, 7-6 UFC) by a one-sided decision.
Qatar only landed 19 total strikes in the match, was taken down eight times, and remained under control for over 10 minutes.
“Don’t get me wrong, our match that night at UFC 300 wasn’t the most entertaining, but I think it was the most dominant match I’ve seen the entire card from top to bottom,” Sterling said. said on his YouTube channel.
“I think I’m probably the most dominant top three on that entire fight card. So when you look at this, to put it in perspective, I average about four or five strikes a minute, so The number of players who were making important strikes was reduced to about 0.5 or so for more than 15 minutes.
The former bantamweight champion acknowledges his fight may not have been the most crowd-pleasing, but says he takes some responsibility for the complete shutout of Qatar’s striking bout.
“(Katar) is a guy who fought tooth and nail with (Max Holloway), went toe-to-toe with Giga Chikadze, probably beat Josh Emmett and was great against a guy who is knocking out guys left-handed. “He put on a performance, right on Dan Ige, knocked out Shane Burgos, (beat) Andre Fili,” Sterling said.
“His history goes on and on about how dangerous he is. So I needed to use my skillset against him and reduce him from someone that dangerous to someone who literally poses no threat at all.” I think it deserves some recognition in that respect.”
