Sean O’Malley has slammed McGregor after the Irish star mocked the bantamweight champion’s explanation for failing a drugs test.
O’Malley has tested positive for the banned substance ostarine multiple times throughout his career, most recently in 2019, which led to a suspension, but he has always denied using PEDs and claimed the traces found in his samples were the result of a tainted supplement.
While O’Malley was unable to identify any supplements that may have contained ostarine, he sees a new possibility as the reason for the failed test. O’Malley says recent studies suggest that ostarine can be transferred through sweat, and possibly through the sharing of clothing and equipment. “Sugar” believes the ostarine was transferred while training at another gym, where the use of ostarine by athletes was openly known. O’Malley believes that teammates Kyler Phillips and Augusto Mendez, who were suspended for the same substance, also picked up traces of ostarine while training at the aforementioned gym.
“That was me, ‘Tanquinho’ [Augusto
Mendes] Kyler [Phillips]Everyone trained in the same gym and everyone was tested. [positive]”Every level is rock bottom. Nobody took anything and everyone swore their lives on it,” O’Malley said. Said He said on his YouTube channel, “I remember asking UFC and USADA, ‘Is it possible for it to be transmitted through sweat?’ and they said, ‘Not at this time, no studies have been done to date.’ Just recently, studies came out from scientists and athletes that it can happen. It happens with someone’s lap band. Someone was sharing a lap band and they tested it for Ostarine. And they tested the lap band and the results showed that Ostarine or any contaminated supplement like that can be transmitted through sweat exchange… We know exactly who did it, and we have a good idea… These people were open about it, they were taking it, they’re still taking it.”
Phillips was suspended for six months in January 2023, while Mendes has not fought in the UFC since being suspended in 2018.
O’Malley’s explanation for failing the drugs test was not convincing to McGregor, who responded to O’Malley’s comments with a laughing emoji in a since-deleted X post.

O’Malley responded with a scathing social media post saying he misses the McGregor of old. The bantamweight champion claims to still be a fan of McGregor, but slammed the Irishman for the recent downturn in his career. O’Malley also claims that “The Notorious” may be the biggest superstar in boxing history, but will never be in the GOAT conversation.
“I miss the old Conor. You’ve declined but I’m still a fan. Even though you’re 1-4 in your last 5 fights I’m still excited to watch. Hope your toe gets better,” O’Malley wrote.
“Conor’s not in anyone’s GOAT conversation. High entertainment value, low skill. Really strong left hand. Terrible cardio. Weak jitters. So-so athleticism. Mentally weak. Drug addiction and needs rehab. 1-4 in his last 5 fights. Still a fan. Hope the toe heals.”
I miss the old Conor 🙁 You’ve fallen off. Still a fan. I actually don’t care that you’re 1-4 in your last 5 games. Looking forward to watching. Hope your toe gets better. https://t.co/ENSkQw1RmB

McGregor was due to return to the Octagon for the first time in three years last month against Michael Chandler in the main event of UFC 303 but pulled out due to a broken toe, while O’Malley is rumored to be defending his bantamweight title against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306 at the Sphere in Las Vegas in September.
