The grappling ace takes down the rise of Ultimate Fighter Championship (UFC) welterweight fighter Rinat Fakhreddinov in a nasty way today (Saturday, April 20, 2024) at Karate Combat 45 from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Craig Jones continued his dominating fashion when he stopped him with a triangle choke.
For those not familiar with Jones, the 32-year-old Jiu-Jitsu black belt is an Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) silver medalist and currently trains some of the world’s best mixed martial artists. This includes former UFC champions Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski. In other words, Jones is one of the most renowned grappling experts in the sport today.
On Saturday, the talented submission specialist looked to build on his off-the-wall triangle display earlier this year. On paper, he may not have been able to get more stops, but Jones’ performance at Karate Combat 45 was still very impressive.
Jones faced Fakhredinov, who currently has a 3-0-1 record as a member of the UFC’s crowded welterweight division. Fakhredinov has done most of his damage inside the Octagon by knocking down his opponents and suffocating them with a strong top game. Unfortunately for the promising UFC contender, he was the one defending against Jones on Saturday.
The final moments of the match came when Jones caught Fakhredinov in a nasty triangle choke. Fakhredinov appeared to lose consciousness when Jones drew the referee’s attention. When Jones loosened his hold, the referee briefly checked Fakhredinov. The UFC fighter only ended up putting Jones to sleep again after some action ensued. It was strange to say the least, but it was another dominant performance from Jones.
