RIZIN Fighting Federation flyweight champion Kyoji Horiguchi avenged his 2021 Bellator MMA loss to Sergio Pettis on Sunday at RIZIN 47 in Tokyo, winning a clear unanimous decision. Horiguchi dominated the first two rounds of the bantamweight main event and overcame a knockdown in the final round to earn a well-deserved victory in an entertaining bout. Horiguchi (33-5, 1 no-kick, 14-1 KO), who lost by fourth-round knockout to Pettis (23-7, 0-1 RIZIN) in their first bout at Bellator 272, fought smart in the rematch, frustrating Pettis with jabs and leg kicks before taking him down in the first round. The middle round began with a takedown by Horiguchi, who kept Pettis pinned against the corner post for over four minutes while staying aggressive with strikes from above.
Pettis fought back in the third round, dropping Horiguchi with a counter left uppercut. Horiguchi recovered from a Bravo choke and continued to fight on the stand in the final two minutes, but Pettis missed an unsuccessful spinning kick attempt for the knockout. All three judges awarded the decision in favor of Horiguchi, who was unbeaten in his previous five fights.
It remains to be seen whether Horiguchi’s next fight will be at flyweight or bantamweight, but the 33-year-old recently expressed frustration at not being able to return to the UFC, where he compiled a 7-1 record from October 2013 to November 2016.

The featherweight co-main event came to a quick end as former RIZIN champion Clever “Koike” Elbst (33-7-1, 1 NC; 8-2, 1 NC RIZIN) tapped out Juan Archuleta (29-6, 3-2 RIZIN) with a devastating reverse heel hook. Koike countered an early punch from Archuleta with a leg kick, but Archuleta curiously tried to take Koike down. It was a clear mistake and Koike wasted no time rolling for a kneebar, then switching to a reverse heel hook to draw the tap from Archuleta at 2 minutes, 25 seconds into the first round.
Koike then went on to challenge for a title, squaring off with RIZIN featherweight champion Chihiro Suzuki. Koike defeated Suzuki by submission at RIZIN 43 in June 2023, but the bout was declared a no contest after Koike failed to make the weight limit. After Suzuki faces Manny Pacquiao for the first time at Super RIZIN 3 next month, Koike plans to wait for a championship rematch later this year.

Unbeaten Polish heavyweight fighter Przemyslaw Kowalczyk (4-0, 1-0 RIZIN) made an impression in his RIZIN debut by handily defeating Mikio Ueda (3-2, 2-2 RIZIN), who was coming off a three-fight winning streak with all three coming by knockout. Kowalczyk took Ueda down, weakening him with punches and knee strikes, then transitioned from back control to a belly-down armbar. With no way to escape, Ueda tapped out at 2 minutes and 8 seconds into the first round.

Opening the main card, undefeated Rajabali Shaydulaev (11-0, 1-0 RIZIN) defeated promotional featherweight mainstay Mitsuji Takeda (16-7, 6-7 RIZIN) by submission in the first round. Shaydulaev was one step ahead of Takeda on his feet, taking him down with back control and forcing him into a defensive position. Shaydulaev eventually secured a rear-naked choke, with Takeda tapping out at 4 minutes, 43 seconds into the first round.
Before the break in the main card, bantamweight champion Kai Asakura stepped into the ring to announce that he had signed with UFC and was relinquishing his title.
Also on the day, Spike Carlisle (15-6, 2-2 RIZIN) knocked out lightweight Kyung-Pyo Kim (13-5, 2-1 RIZIN) via standing rear-naked choke at 1:11 of the third round after struggling through the first two rounds. Karsiga Doutbek (15-3, 1-1 RIZIN) stopped Tetsuya Seki (15-10-1, 3-3 RIZIN) with a left hook to the body at 3:11 of the first round in a featherweight bout. Noah Bey (3-3, 3-3 RIZIN) won by unanimous decision over Johnny Case (28-10-1, 4-4 RIZIN) thanks to Case receiving a significant points deduction for not meeting the lightweight limit. And Patrick Usami Sho (7-2, 3-1 RIZIN) knocked out fellow lightweight Kazuki Tokudome (20-12-1, 0-2 RIZIN) with punches at 2 minutes, 29 seconds into the first round. The card also included a 137-pound kickboxing bout using MMA gloves between Genji Umeno and Mamoru Uoi, with Umeno winning by unanimous decision.
