Michael Page (22-3) believes Sharavdin Magomedov (15-0) will already be in bad shape if he goes for a takedown in their next fight.
Two of the sport’s most entertaining strikers, Page and Magomedov, will clash in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 250 on February 1st at The Venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight will likely continue on its feet, but the dynamics could change if one of the strikers tries to transition to a wrestling-based approach. “MVP” suspects Magomedov will try to take him down because the Dagestani is too stubborn and confident in his skill set. However, Page believes that if that happens, “Shara Barrett” will be in a dire situation. The Briton said Magomedov might be too bloody to fight back even if he tried for a takedown.
“If he did that [shoot]that means the fight is going my way, and actively going my way,” Page said on the “Believe You Me” podcast. “Because I think he’s going to believe in his abilities and be more stubborn. So if he decides to go for a takedown, I’m definitely going to land some crazy shots… because , he knew in his heart that he was the best when it came to the hitting game. Because I believe it. So it will take some knocks before he decides to change it. And it may be too late though. , I think he’s going to get pretty bloody if he goes for a takedown.”
Magomedov has four wins in the UFC, including two finishes. The rising star became a front-runner for “KO of the Year” with his double spinning backfist KO win over Armen Petrosyan at UFC 308 in October of this year.
Meanwhile, Page won a unanimous decision over Kevin Holland in his UFC debut in March, before losing a unanimous decision to Ian Garry at UFC 303 in June.
