Lightweight Manuel Torres represented his native Mexico at UFC 306 at The Sphere on Saturday, taking on Ignacio Bajamondez in a card designed to celebrate Mexican Independence Day and Mexican fighting spirit.
Torres, the 2021 Contender Series winner, has won all three of his previous appearances in the Octagon, while Bahamondes is fresh off a highlight-minute head kick win over Christos Llagos.
After a somewhat tough start to the night for the Mexican team, Chile’s Bajamondes pulled off a commanding victory.
Torres started to take aim early with her boxing. Bajamondes landed a head kick to the back of Torres’ head, but Torres quickly recovered. However, she was hit with a beautiful slipping back right punch that took her down. Torres regained her composure and got up off the canvas. With one minute left in the first round, Bajamondes landed another hard right punch that sealed her victory. The final blow was nearly the same one that had taken down Torres a minute earlier. Ignacio Bajamondes once again showed off his striking prowess on the biggest stage of his career.
Will Ignacio Bajamondes be next in the top 15?
