Ilia Topuria is expanding his portfolio in his home country.
The UFC featherweight champion recently became a co-owner of Spanish organization Way of Warrior FC, and WOW announced its partnership with Topuria on Tuesday.
“We are very happy to welcome Ilia Topuria as a shareholder of WOW,” the organization announced on Instagram (via translation). “This partnership will make MMA in Spain even bigger. Your talent and passion are a perfect fit for our mission and let’s celebrate this great achievement together.”
Since its launch in late 2019, WOW FC has hosted more than 30 events in Spain, the majority of which have taken place in Madrid. The next event, WOW FC 15, is scheduled to take place at Madrid’s Vistalegre Arena Palace on September 14.
“My team and I are very happy to be part of such a promising project as WOW, which, with everyone’s efforts, will be the perfect platform for all Spanish fighters to continue growing in the sport,” Topuria said in a statement (via MMAjunkie.com).
After winning 15 consecutive fights since his professional debut, Topuria is poised to become one of the sport’s top stars, having won the featherweight division in February by knocking out Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 298. “El Matador” will return to action in the main event of UFC 308 before defending his title against Max Holloway on October 26 in Abu Dhabi.
