Ilia Topuria heads into her first featherweight title defense as confident as ever.
Topria will put the strap on the line against Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 308 on October 26th at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. And “El Matador” vows to beat Holloway at his own match.
Holloway had been somewhat out of the title picture until recently, but he got his chance this past April when he won the BMF title against Justin Gaethje in the lightweight division at UFC 300. “Blessed” battered Gaethje for five rounds before symbolically inviting him to a slugfest in the center of the Octagon and knocking him out with a buzzer-beater.
Topuria promised to invite Holloway to the slugfest at UFC 308, and he would do so within seconds of the fight. And if Holloway complies, Topuria believes it will take less than 10 seconds to inflict the first knockout loss of his career on the former featherweight champion.

“Within the first 10 seconds you’ll be in the middle of the Octagon,” Topuria told Ariel Helwani. “I want to deliver the most exciting first 10 seconds in UFC history, and I want to win the fastest KO in UFC history, because Jorge
[Masvidal] I want to try it with my knees, I want to try it with my hands…I’m really looking forward to it. I have no doubt in my mind that I will knock him out. If he stays in the middle for the first 10 seconds of the fight, we’ll see the fastest knockout in UFC history. ”
Topria earned the strap with a knockout win over Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 in February of this year. Holloway produced a trilogy up to “The Great,” but all three failed. Topuria claims Volkanovski is a tougher opponent than Holloway.
“For me and for everyone, [Volkanovski is a tougher matchup than
Holloway]said Priya. “Alex was a really, really tough opponent for me, and he’s a tough opponent for anybody. I wonder how long he hasn’t lost at featherweight.”
