It’s been a while since the last event, but Invicta Fighting Championship is back in full swing this summer.
On Tuesday, organization president Shannon Knapp announced on the SiriusXM radio channel’s “MMA Today” show that Invicta would hold its first event of the year in June. The women-only league last held a show in October 2023, sparking rumors that Invicta was in jeopardy. A full seven-bout event will be held at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas, according to a press release on Friday. Broadcast arrangements have not yet been made public, but Invicta will announce the details at a later date. Posts
This would mark the start of a deal that would allow the event to take place every six weeks.
Invicta FC 55 on June 28 will be headlined by a bantamweight championship fight between Talita Bernardo (10-4) and Olga Rubin (9-3). Bernardo will be looking to make her first defense of her title since winning it in January 2023. The Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran left the promotion after losing three of her four appearances, but has since reeled off four straight wins, including three under the Invicta banner. Her rival Rubin lost a split decision to Taneisha Tennant for the title in 2022, but has earned another chance at the championship with two wins over Selena DeJesus and Claire Guthrie.
The co-headline bout will feature UFC returnee Kay Hansen (7-6) versus relative Colombian newcomer Sayuri Cannon (3-0). Hansen will return to the organization where she made her pro debut after ending her four-fight UFC career with three straight losses in 2022. Fellow strawweight Cannon turned pro before Hansen, notching one win in 2016 before taking a five-plus year hiatus before returning to the ring.
The rest of the lineup will feature a few newcomers from Japan, facing off against Invicta veterans and MMA newbies. World No. 1 Saori Oshima (14-4), on loan from Jewels, will face Andressa Romero (6-4-1) at atomweight. Taylor Guardado (4-2) and Yoko Azuma (8-4) have both dropped down to bantamweight in a showdown between former Professional Fighters League fighters. Elisandra Ferreira de Oliveira (6-2) will be looking to make it three straight wins under Invicta lights when she takes on the experienced Katie Sohl (6-6) at atomweight. Former amateur stars will clash as former GAMMA fighter Zoe Nowicki (0-0) takes on former IMMAF champion Josiane Oliveira (0-0) in a doubles match in her flyweight debut. The card will begin with Scorpion Fighting System’s rising star Fallon Johnson (0-0), turning professional and taking on former Combate Global champion Violeta Mendoza (1-0) in a flyweight bout.
