UFC 302 saw a showdown between two heavyweight contenders as No. 7 ranked heavyweight Jairton Almeida faced off against Alexander Romanov.
Jailton Almeida was undefeated in the UFC and dominated the sport with his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, his fiery single leg and his numerous athletic prowess until he faced Curtis Blaydes. Almeida also won a wrestling match against a former NCAA Division I wrestler, but was knocked out by hammer fist early in the second round. Today, Almeida faced Alexander Romanov, a talented wrestler ranked #13 in the UFC heavyweight division.
Jailton came out and switched from a single leg to a body lock to score the first takedown. Jailton got on top of Romanov, who got an overhook and locked down Almeida, but wouldn’t get up. When Alexander tried to get up, he was quickly taken on his back and narrowly avoided being choked or having his jaw broken. When Romanov tried to get up from his knees, Almeida again came forward like a boa constrictor and choked the Moldovan fighter.
After recently suffering his first defeat inside the Octagon, Almeida now showed his determination that he is still here and will not be replaced by a lesser heavyweight.
OFFICIAL RESULT: Jairton Almeida defeated Alexander Romanov via submission (rear-naked choke), 2:27, round 1
