Canadian featherweight fighter Charles Jourdan faced Jean Silva at UFC 303 looking to improve to 2-0 for Team Canada.
Gillian Robertson led the Canucks’ momentum with a dominant performance over the recently retired Michelle Waterson-Gomez, while Silva was the only fighter not to make weight at UFC 303.
Early on, this preliminary featherweight bout was kick-heavy and foot-heavy. Jourdain worked from the outside, using lateral movement and maneuvering around danger. The Canadian mixed in high and leg kicks, but disaster struck when he came forward and was taken down by Silva. Sensing his opponent injured, Silva allowed Jourdain to retreat. Wanting a breather, Jourdain changed levels to try for a takedown on the fence, but Silva fought back with dropped elbows and eventually fended off the attempt.
In the final 10 seconds, Jourdan scored a takedown but was unable to take the round.
Silva won the second round, becoming the first man to knock out Charles Jardine. Jardine was caught on the feet during a takedown attempt and received a nasty elbow, leaving him vulnerable and allowing Silva to exploit the opportunity. An uppercut from the attempt sent Jardine falling backwards and Silva was out before the referee could step in. The walk-off KO was marred by a weight error, but it erased what would have been an arguably big bonus for the Brazilian.
Jean Silva addressed the weight issue, saying he fell down the stairs before the weigh-in, which delayed his cut.
Official result: Jean Silva defeats Charles Jourdan by KO, Round 2, 1:22
