As his record attests, Ultimate Fighting Championship up-and-comer Jean Silva is tough beyond words.
Days after his hard-fought three-round bout with Drew Dober at UFC on ESPN 59 on Thursday, Silva shared X-rays of his hands on Instagram. Silva defeated Dober by technical knockout after an elbow left Dober with a large cut on his eyebrow, but Dober wasn’t the only one to get a souvenir: Silva revealed that he broke both his hands in the first round of his “Fight of the Night” win.
“As everyone saw, the fighter that fought Dober was extremely tough,” Silva said in an Instagram video.[Between] In the first and second rounds, I told my corner that I had broken both hands and they told me to just keep using my knees and elbows, which I did. I never intended to lose, and I never was going to lose. [for] Everyone, I’m coming.
[back].”
For Silva, his three-fight streak with the organization has been as impressive as it has been intense. The Brazilian made his UFC debut in January, knocking out Westin Wilson in the first round. “Lord” returned in June, defeating Charles Jardine with a single knockout, becoming the first fighter to finish the tough Canadian in the process, though he missed weight. Taking a two-week break to face Dober at lightweight, Silva became one of five fighters in the modern era to win two bouts in 14 days. The 27-year-old, who trains with the Fighting Nerds, may take some time off to recover, but when he does, he’ll have 11 straight wins, 10 by knockout.
