Jessica Andrade claims Joanna Jedrzejczyk is ready to come out of retirement to rematch her for the women’s BMF title.
Andrade will face rising Brazilian Natalia Silva in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 242 on September 7 at the Apex in Las Vegas. “Bate Estaca” holds the most wins and finishes of any female fighter in UFC history. Andrade, who would like to beat Silva and get a shot at the flyweight title, has also proposed the creation of a BMF title for the women’s division.
Andrade also claims to have been in talks with former rival Jedrzejczyk, who has reportedly agreed to come out of retirement for a potential rematch for the BMF title.
“I was talking to Joanna and she said she’d be back,” Andrade told MMAFighting.com. “This is [BMF] If I win the belt, she’ll come back. I think it’ll be a good fight. Either Joanna or Angela Hill, she never runs away from a fight, she’s always fighting anyone. Or Valentina. [Shevchenko]”Any of the girls would be fine, but if it’s Joanna then it’ll be special. That’ll be better.”
When they first faced each other at UFC 211 in 2017, Jedrzejczyk denied Andrade a strawweight title shot via unanimous decision. One of the most notable moments of the Polish veteran’s career was the gruesome hematoma he suffered when he lost the title by split decision to Weili Zhang at UFC 248 in 2020. Jedrzejczyk then returned after a two-year hiatus, losing by knockout to Zhang at UFC 275 before retiring in June 2022. However, Andrade is still hoping to get revenge on Jedrzejczyk, this time at 125 pounds.
“[Jedrzejczyk] “She said she’s going to fight at 125 instead of 115, and I’m in good shape at that weight class, so that’s even better for me,” Andrade said. “I don’t think it’s going to affect me too much about the weight cut or anything like that. I think we’re going to put on a show and have a great fight, and I think I can get that fight back.”
