The demographic for the June 1 boxing showdown between former UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz may be a little busy.
As a result, the match was moved from June 1st at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California to July 6th at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The main motivation for this change is the upcoming conflict with UFC 302, which will take place on June 1st at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and will feature the light heavyweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier. It was to avoid collision. Following initial reports from the boxing scene, multiple media outlets have confirmed the new date and venue for Masvidal vs. Diaz.
Masvidal vs. Diaz will be fought over 10 rounds and will be contested at 175 pounds. This card is available on pay-per-view through Fanmio for $79.99.
Masvidal and Diaz originally fought for the inaugural BMF title at UFC 244 in November 2019, with “Gamebred” winning via doctor’s stoppage after three rounds. Masvidal will miss his next four fights in the Octagon, including two title fights against Kamaru Usman, before announcing his retirement. The 39-year-old Miami native revealed his plans to return to martial arts earlier this year.
Diaz fought two more times under the UFC banner after his loss to Masvidal. After dropping a five-round decision over Leon Edwards at UFC 263, the Stockton, Calif. native let go of his promotion shortly after scoring a submission victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. Most recently, Diaz dropped a unanimous decision to Jake Paul. At a boxing match in Dallas last August.
