Kai Asakura (21-4) believes his biggest advantage over Alexandre Pantoja (28-5) is his knockout power.
Asakura will challenge for Pantoja’s flyweight title in his promotion debut in the main event of UFC 310 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The former Rizin Fighting Federation bantamweight champion claims he can knock out ‘The Cannibal’ with one clean shot. According to Asakura, Pantoja only needs one more slip-up to end the fight with his proven knockout power.
“My advantage against Pantoja is that I can finish him off with one punch,” Asakura said on the UFC 310 countdown show. “So if he makes one mistake, I’m confident I can knock him out with one punch.”
Asakura has 16 of his 21 career wins, including 13 by knockout. The 31-year-old also has notable wins over UFC flyweight Manel Kape and former title challenger Kyoji Horiguchi.
Pantoja, meanwhile, has 18 of his 28 career wins, including 10 by submission and eight by knockout. Pantoja is currently on a six-fight winning streak, including the title.
Defense against Brandon Moreno and later Brandon Roybal and Steve Arseg. The Brazilian respects Asakura’s skill set, but believes he is better in every way.
“Kai has great skill, but no matter where the fight goes, it’s going to be my fight,” Pantoja said. “UFC 310, I want to finish Kai Asakura. I want his head on my table.”
