At the ONE Friday Fights 60 Flyweight Showcase held at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, Kaito Oda delivered a masterclass in grappling in his ONE Championship debut, boasting that he is undefeated to date. He won a unanimous decision against Australian up-and-comer Cooper Royal.
The opening round saw Oda push his opponent against the ropes, take a few sneaky shots, then grab a bodylock and mount his Australian opponent. Royal tried his best to do damage and aim for a submission from below, but Oda’s top pressure quickly nullified his attempts, allowing him to launch a heavy ground-and-pound attack. Midway through the first frame, Royal managed to get back to his feet, but was taken down again and was controlled on the canvas for the rest of the round.
For the remainder of the match, Oda continued to impose his will on the MMA Family Fight Team product, seemingly content to be in last place even as he occasionally threatened the Nagasaki native with a guillotine choke. In the end, Oda made a unilateral decision in his first stint with the organization and left.
