Former Invicta FC flyweight champion, Brazilian Ketlen Sousa, will be looking to clinch his second straight UFC win when he takes on Yazmin Jauregui at UFC 306 on Saturday.
Known as “Noche UFC,” the card was set to celebrate Mexican martial arts tradition and independence at The Sphere in Las Vegas, and Jauregui will represent Mexico in the bout, looking to earn his fourth win in five fights under the UFC banner.
In a foul-filled opening (and only) round, Jauregui and Souza landed two low blows within the space of just a few minutes. Each fighter landed one, leading the referee to scold them with a “no more,” pointing out that they’d each landed one, but soon it didn’t matter. Souza took Jauregui down with a left hook, flattened him, and went for the choke. She sunk the hook, rolled up the rear-naked choke, and quickly ended the Mexican’s night, earning an upset victory. The Mexican’s morale was low, and both fighters fell to 1-2 in the night’s three bouts.
With the win, Souza improved to 2-1 inside the Octagon, with his only loss coming at flyweight. After the win, Souza wished those in attendance a happy Mexican Independence Day.
