But boxing legends remained in the sport through expensive exhibition matches.
Mayweather then faced KSI’s younger brother Desi, 27, in November 2021 and won after six rounds of provocation and show-offs.
The antics infuriated KSI and opened the door for the YouTuber-turned-boxer to seek revenge and take on the American icon.
And Mayweather’s uncle Jeff, KSI’s former trainer, admitted that this showdown was exactly the right thing to do to bring his nephew back.
Jeff told SunSport: “It’s a fight that brings in a lot of money for both sides, so why not do it?”
“I mean KSI, I worked with him, and of course there’s no YouTube fighter on the planet that can beat Floyd, I don’t care what their weight is.
“They’re not going to be Floyd. Floyd still has a fighter’s body, still runs and still goes to the gym every once in a while.
“That’s his life, and that’s the life he knows because he was raised that way. It’s built into him.”

KSI, 30, has not returned since suffering his first boxing loss in a controversial decision to Tommy Fury, 24, in October.
But he wants a rematch and named Mayweather as his most likely opponent, along with McGregor, 35, Jake Paul, 27, and Fury.

Mayweather, 47, has held seven exhibitions since his retirement against stars from social media, mixed martial arts and boxing.
His final match was against the grandson of notorious mob boss John Gotti, but he won by disqualification after a scuffle in the ring.
Uncle Jeff defended Mayweather’s decision to continue fighting for millions in prize money into his 40s, despite being past his glorious best.
Jeff said, “So, why not fight a guy who’s never done anything in the real sport of boxing and get three or four million dollars?”
“And it’s funny and it’s not even an actual fight. We already know who will win.”
