Netflix makes a splashy debut into the world of martial arts this week with an eight-round heavyweight boxing match between former Disney star Jake Paul and the legendary Mike Tyson.
Paul and Tyson had to weigh over 200 pounds in preparation for this fight, which they both easily cleared. Paul weighed 227.2 pounds, the heaviest of his career having previously fought at cruiserweight. Meanwhile, Tyson weighed 228.4 pounds when he stepped on the scale.
Paul (10-1) is one of the biggest names in boxing due to his crossover appeal. This influencer made a name for himself in the ring by defeating mixed martial arts legends. Past victims include Mike Perry, Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. Paul’s only loss was to Tommy Fury, Tyson Fury’s half-brother.
Meanwhile, Tyson (50-6) hasn’t fought professionally since a humiliating loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. Tyson, once the most feared boxer in the world, ended his career with three losses in his last four fights. The former IBF, WBA and WBC world heavyweight champion is currently 58 years old. Back in 2020, “Iron Mike” had a boxing exhibition with Roy Jones Jr., which ended in a draw.
Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson will be broadcast live on Netflix. The four-fight main card begins at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
