Manon Fioro is adamant that she will fight for the title next, even if it’s just an interim belt.
Fioroto made a legitimate case for gold last month with a unanimous decision win over top contender Erin Blanchfield in the UFC main event on ESPN 54. However, the French standout will have to wait for a trilogy matchup between champion Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko. They are expected to compete after completing their coaching duties on “The Ultimate Fighter 32.” Fiorot hopes to serve as a backup for that bout, but “The Beast” is open to another matchup if the interim title is involved.
“If I had to choose, the best choice for me would be to back up the fight,” Fiorotto told MMAjunkie.com. “If Valentina or Alexa gets hurt or loses weight or something like that, I think that would be a good thing. , I think it’s probably something I can do after the match with the winner. If not, I can fight, but I definitely want an interim title or something like that. I think I deserve it.”
Fioroto once wanted to fight Shevchenko, but now that the former champion lost to Grasso, he doesn’t really care.
“At first I really wanted to fight Valentina because she is undisputed and a great champion,” Fiorotto said. “But now Alexa
[won] against her. So I really don’t care. I really respect Valentina for what she did, but no, I won and that’s it. I don’t really want to choose, and I’m not particular about it. ”
Macy Barber is also being called up for a backup spot in Shevchenko vs. Grasso 3. Barber, who was right behind Fiorotto for her longest active win streak at flyweight, found the Frenchwoman’s performance at UFC Atlantic City boring. Fiorotto agrees with Barber about the fight, but she’s open to a “simple” matchup with “The Future” if she’s aiming for the interim title.
“Honestly, I’ve never watched Macy’s matches because they’re just so boring,” she said. “I think her first match was Katrin Cerminara, I know her.” [won] Decided.she [did not have] has better performance than me, and I have [fought] I suffered a serious knee injury. So, no, to be honest, I don’t care, fighting Macy is an easy match for me, but only if it’s an interim belt or a belt. ”
