Mauricio Rua is aiming to be inducted into the Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Fame this summer.
Shogun will be placed in the Pioneer building during a ceremony in Las Vegas on June 27th. Rua was the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and the 2005 Pride Fighting Championship Middleweight Grand Prix Champion.
“Shogun Rua is one of the greatest Brazilian athletes in the history of martial arts,” said Dana White, UFC President and CEO. “Shogun had a great run in PRIDE and the UFC, and was fearless inside the Octagon. His matches against Mark Coleman, Chuck Liddell, Lyoto Machida, and Dan Henderson are some of the most memorable in UFC history. “He represents some of the most memorable moments in history and helped put Brazilian MMA on the map. We are honored to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame during International Fight Week this summer.”
Rua has a record of 27-14-1 in his MMA career, which began in 2002. He notably won the PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix with first-round KO/TKO wins over Alistair Overeem and Ricardo Arona at PRIDE’s “Final Conflict” on the same night. 2005” August 28, 2005.
Rua then won the UFC light heavyweight gold medal with a first-round knockout of Lyoto Machida at UFC 113, and returned the belt to Jon Jones at UFC 128. The Brazilian has the most matches (24), most knockdowns (14) and is second. He has the most KO/TKO wins (8) in UFC history at light heavyweight.
