The Ultimate Fighting Championship brings together classic “Striker vs. Grappler” matchups.
According to MMA Fighting on Thursday, the promotion has confirmed a welterweight matchup between Michael Chiesa (17-7) and Max Griffin (20-10) at UFC 310. Two 170ers with vastly different styles will square off at UFC 310 on December 7th. T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Griffin later confirmed the pairing on Instagram.
Chiesa bounced back from a career losing streak by tapping out Tony Ferguson in August. This victory ended the slump that started in 2021, and was his first win since January of the same year. In a tough match, Chiesa succumbed to Vicente Luque’s bravo choke and fell short of Sean Brady. These consecutive setbacks forced the Washington native to take some time off. Upon Chiesa’s return after a nearly 20-month break, Kevin Holland hit Chiesa with a Bravo choke, setting the company’s all-time record for most submission losses (three).
“Pain” has won and lost the last five games, and heard the final bell in all five games. He outperformed older veterans like Carlos Condit and Tim Means, as well as a controversial decision over Jeremiah Wells, but fell short of top fighters in the division like Neil Magny and Michael Morales. There wasn’t. Griffin, who has won five of the last seven games, has since improved his organization’s record to .500.
UFC 310 will take place on December 7th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but there are currently no headliners scheduled. The event will feature a number of highly anticipated showdowns, including the heavyweight rematch between Cyril Gane and Alexander Volkov, which was recently postponed from UFC 308. Additionally, Vilna Jandirova will face Tatiana Suarez in a strawweight title eliminator, while Nick Diaz will re-enter the fight. Octagon throws down Luque.
