Multiple outlets recently confirmed that Michel Pereira is scheduled to face Roman Dolisez in a middleweight bout on June 8th’s UFC on ESPN 57 card, but “Demolidor” recently took to Instagram to confirm that the matchup will never be announced. I made it clear that I did not agree.
The Brazilian said it seemed impossible to fight his training partner and “friend” with a month’s notice. The reason for this was not only their camaraderie, but also the logistical challenges of finding another gym to train at in the short term.
“I didn’t accept that fight, okay?” Pereira said on his Instagram Story (translation: Agphyte). “That guy trains with me every day. He trains with me at UFC PI, he trains and fights at Xtreme Couture. Okay? He accepted, I don’t. For me, it’s not the time to fight him. Even if he accepts, it’s his problem. I was surprised when he accepted. Okay? I said I would take it if it was someone else. But it’s not the time to fight him yet, because to me, he’s my friend. Because we were training partners in my head. But I realized that’s not the case…We train together, so I have to find another gym to train with. will have to organize themselves.”
Following Pereira’s revelations, Dorise also took to social media to share his position.
“Yes, we are training together. I heard he agreed to fight on June 8th (not June 1st as originally scheduled) and the UFC asked me to change the date. ,” Dorise wrote. “The contract was sent to me yesterday. If they asked me to change the date (he requested) and he agreed, then of course I signed the contract.”
While the Georgian fighter is certainly ready to face his training partner inside the Octagon, he was quick to label the entire debacle as a “misunderstanding” when replying to comments on the original post.
“I don’t blame him, he’s a good person and a good fighter. It’s just a misunderstanding,” Dolidze added. “That’s what he told me.” [accepted]
