UFC Denver, scheduled for July 13, has been canceled for a second time after Mike Davis tore his biceps while sparring on June 11. The lightweight bout between Dober and Davis, first announced earlier this month, has been called off.
Davis tweeted on Tuesday, clearly dejected after hearing the expert’s opinion: “This is so tough… I completely tore my bicep while sparring on Tuesday. June 11th. I’ve lost 3.5 inches of my bicep,” Davis continued.
“Yes, you will need surgery. We will have to drill the tendon into the bone and reattach it.”
Mike also tweeted a graphic video of the exchange that led to the injury, captioning it “you can literally hear the crack” and “very disappointing.”
This is devastating news for Davis, who had won four straight bouts since losing his UFC debut to Gilbert Burns, and the injury, which will require surgery, will likely keep him out for an extended period of time.
This will also leave Denver-based fighter Drew Dober without a fight-day partner, and it has yet to be announced whether Dober will acquire a replacement to remain on the card.
Here’s the new lineup for UFC Denver at Ball Arena:
Rose Namajunas vs. Macy Barber Luana Santos vs. Mariya Agapova Vivian Araujo vs. Jasmine Yasdavičius Gabriel Bonfim vs. Ange Roosa Mike Marotte vs. Gilbert Urbina Cody Brundage vs. Abdul Razak Alhassan Christian Rodriguez vs. Julian Erosa Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Muslim Salikhov Josh Fremd vs. Andre Petroski Najm Sadikhov vs. Markel Mederos
