Montel Jackson pulled off one of the quickest knockouts in UFC bantamweight history on Saturday night, and received a little extra reward for his efforts.
“Quick” earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus by knocking out Damon Blackshear in 18 seconds during Saturday night’s preliminaries at UFC on ESPN 59 at Denver’s Ball Arena. Jackson knocked out his opponent with a straight left in the opening bout, making it the second-fastest finish in UFC bantamweight history.
Meanwhile, in a fierce lightweight battle, Jean Silva and Drew Dober were named “Fight of the Night” and each received a $50,000 prize. Silva, who had moved up a weight class, was faster and more versatile than his opponent, bloodying Dober with lead hooks and spinning elbows that opened up a large cut over Dober’s eye, forcing a doctor’s stoppage at 1 minute 28 seconds into the third round, giving the Brazilian his second win in 14 days.
Finally, Charles Johnson took home the $50,000 “Performance of the Night” prize for his win over Joshua Vann in the flyweight division. The first two rounds were closely fought, with Vann dominating with power and Johnson holding on with volume. But “Inner G” started the final round with urgency, staggering his opponent with a right hook and then dropping him with a devastating uppercut to end the bout 20 seconds into the third round.
