CHICAGO – After his first win in 28 months, Murad Ramazanov credited the outstanding team he is training with in Russia.
Dagestan’s Ramazanov (12-0) remained undefeated on Friday with a victory over Laureano Staropoli (13-6) just over four minutes into the bout to open the 2024 PFL welterweight season. Ta. The win gives Ramazanov six points in the standings and puts him in an ideal position for his second fight of the regular season.
After his victory over Staropol, who missed weight for the fight, Ramazanov said the team previously led by Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who died in 2020, helped mold him into a new PFL contender. .
“As for our school, I think it’s all thanks to the late Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov,” Ramazanov told MMA Junkie and other reporters through an interpreter after his win at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena. told. “He was someone who put discipline behind everything he did, including everyone in the gym. The important thing is to stick to strict discipline and the training process. We respect everyone who goes into training. And of course I’m working hard.”
Currently, the team is primarily coached by Khabib Nurmagomedov, a former UFC lightweight champion and considered one of the pound-for-pound greats in MMA history.
Ramazanov has not fought since December 2022, when he fought Roberto Soldic to a no-contest under the ONE Championship banner, and has not won since ONE’s victory in December 2021. Currently, his six points in the welterweight rankings are second only to Don Mudge, and that’s only based on the tiebreaker as Mudge finished faster.
Still, Ramazanov is in great position for his next fight in Sioux Falls, S.D., in late June. He believes the continued training he receives is what will get him to the top.
“I’ve been to other gyms in the United States and other countries,” Ramazanov said. “I’m not saying they’re worse. Obviously, people train hard. But in our case, discipline is important. That’s very important. But other It’s so nice to train in the gym and other people come to our gym too. It’s all about love and respect and training and improving together.
“Now Khabib Nurmagomedov follows in his father’s footsteps and continues to maintain that discipline. We are grateful to him and his father for their efforts. The important thing is to follow a strict discipline program and continue to win. That’s how champions are made.”
