Both Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal made weight safely for their 175-pound boxing bout, but there was just plain ill will rather than drama on the scales.
Boxing pay-per-view main events are rematches of sorts, despite being in different martial arts. Diaz (21-13 MMA) and Masvidal (35-17 MMA) famously faced off in the main event of UFC 244 for the inaugural BMF title. Masvidal ultimately won by TKO after a doctor’s stoppage in the third round. Both fighters made the 175-pound weight limit for the 10-round boxing match.
Diaz is 0-1 as a professional boxer. He made his debut last year against former Disney star Jake Paul (6-1). Paul won by unanimous decision, knocking Diaz down in the fifth round. In mixed martial arts, Diaz submitted Tony Ferguson by guillotine choke before leaving the UFC. Diaz weighed in at 175.6 pounds.
Meanwhile, Masvidal has a 1-0 record as a professional boxer. “Gamebred’s” only boxing bout came in 2005 against Joseph Benjamin (1-11-2). Masvidal won by majority decision in the four-round bout. In mixed martial arts, the 39-year-old has lost four consecutive bouts to Gilbert Burns and Colby Covington, and twice to Kamaru Usman. The Miami native’s official weight is 175.2 pounds.
Diaz vs. Masvidal will take place on pay-per-view on UFC Fight Pass and Dazn at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
