Jimmy Flick vs. Nate Manes was one of several promising flyweight bouts on Saturday’s UFC Las Vegas 93 card, with another 125-pound bout between Alex Perez and Tatsuro Taira being the main event.
Flick and Manes both had solo wins and were looking to start winning streaks.
Manes started the bout with a quick jab, while Jimmy tried to use his head movement and defense. Flick landed multiple kicks to the body and head, and landed a hit to the body. With nearly three minutes left in the round, Flick attempted a single leg takedown, but Manes was able to cinch a guillotine with his back against the fence. Flick landed a single leg, and the two traded back and forth in the center of the Octagon. Manes remained calm, landing a jab and landing hits to the body and head.
With a minute left in the round, Flick fired off a combination and tried to go for a single leg again. After some resistance, Flick took Manez to the ground, where his opponent chose to hang on to the guillotine. Flick attempted a Von Flue choke in the final seconds of the round, but missed.
At the start of the second round, Manes landed several combinations aimed at the body of Flick as he retreated and circled around. Jimmy was able to come forward with some hard punches to the stomach and leg kicks, all the while moving his head to avoid some jabs. Nearly half way through the round, Manes still seemed to be in control, poking his opponent with single punches to keep shots away and scoring Dulce in a flash. Jimmy broke free and continued to scramble, pushing him against the fence for a body lock takedown. Jimmy was unable to get the takedown and was pushed against the fence and fell into a guillotine. In the final seconds of the round, Manes was able to get his head out of the guillotine and land some hard punches on Flick.
Manes again landed a jab, catching Flick’s head a little early to start the third round.
Flick followed Maness with his guard up, waving at his opponent and looking to clinch. Midway through the round, Flick attempted another single-leg takedown with a great overhand kick. Maness again defended the takedown and pushed Flick back against the cage. Nate pressed Flick against the cage and landed some scary short punches and knees. Manes was able to maintain control in the clinch, and in the final seconds, a bloodied Flick attempted a missed guillotine and landed on his back to absorb ground-and-pound before time expired.
All three judges awarded Nate Manes the victory.
Official result: Nate Maness defeats Jimmy Flick via unanimous decision (30-27 30-27, 29-28)
