Daniel Cormier doesn’t expect Michael Chandler to get a part of the UFC 303 pay-per-view.
Chandler will face Conor McGregor in a welterweight bout on June 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+). Chandler, who hasn’t competed since November 2022, waited more than a year for the fight to become official.
Cormier believes Chandler (23-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC) may have overestimated his fight with McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC).
“I don’t understand why you would give pay-per-view points to someone who is not going to drive sales,” Cormier said on “Funky and the Champ” with Ben Askren. “And this isn’t me hating Mike. He’s not driving sales with his job. When he fights Conor McGregor, Conor is driving the sales, so obviously He’s going to be part of the pay-per-view and part of the business.
“Mike is still ranked in the top five or six in the world, so of course he’s attractive. At the end of the day, this feels like a story about McGregor, and part of the reason is that Because Connor keeps talking about how he’s making all these decisions and essentially telling Mike, “We’re doing this, we’re doing this, we’re doing it.” this. ‘”
McGregor has been responsible for seven events, including the top four of the top 10 PPV-grossing events in UFC history. “The Notorious” will be returning from a nearly three-year layoff when he faces Chandler.
