Just in time for the trip to Manchester, the former Bobby Green officially changed his name to King Green and rebranded himself as “The King” ahead of a match against Paddy Pimblett.
The two fighters competed in a lightweight bout on the main card of UFC 304, which was held early Sunday morning to cater to North American PPV buyers.
There was no love between them and it became a kind of resentment, which presented new challenges for Pimblett, a rising star in the company.
The opening round of Pimblett vs. Greene was a lot of emotion with kicks being traded and not much else. Finally, with about half the round left, things exploded in an instant. Greene lunged with a double leg and Pimblett fought back with a dive for a guillotine. In the scramble, Pimblett had Greene in a triangle choke, the grip getting tighter and tighter, with Greene finding himself in an increasingly dangerous situation.
The submission was so tight that Green was quickly rendered unconscious, giving Paddy Pimblett the biggest win of his UFC tenure to date.
“I made a statement, bitches!” Pimblett yelled from the cage after his win. “I’m the first guy to submit Bobby in UFC. This is big news. This is a statement. To all the haters that said I’d never be ranked, what happens now?”
Pimblett has wins over Jared Gordon, Tony Ferguson and Green and is hoping to face Renato Moicano next.
OFFICIAL RESULT: Paddy Pimblett defeats King Green by technical submission (triangle choke), 1st round, 3:22
