Paddy Pimblett will need a caddie for the bonus he won on Saturday night.
Pimblett, an up-and-coming lightweight boxer, submitted Bobby Green with a masterful triangle choke in the first round at UFC 304, earning a $200,000 bonus. Pimblett frustrated Green in the stand-up, until Green thoughtlessly changed levels and took him to the mat. Pimblett seized his opportunity to get the submission, putting Green to sleep in front of a roaring crowd at the Co-op Arena in Manchester, England.
UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is growing in popularity every time he steps into the Octagon, and on Saturday he boosted his bank account by $100,000 with a first-round knockout of Curtis Blaydes. While Dana White still seems adamant that a Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic fight should happen, Aspinall has only increased the pressure on Jones to fight him for the undefeated title.
It was a good night for the heavyweights, including Michael “Mick” Parkin, who earned himself a $100,000 bonus with his first-round knockout of Lukasz Brzeski. The unbeaten Parkin (10-0) is creeping closer to the Top 15 and could have more opportunities in the future.
White revealed in the post-fight press conference that UFC 304 will likely be his last fight with a bonus of more than $50,000.
“I have everybody on this card to thank,” White said. “Nobody fought harder. There was no urgency. ‘Oh my god, I want $100,000.’ Seven straight shitty decisions.”
