Paddy Pimblett recently recalled watching Conor McGregor’s first loss to Anderson Silva against Chris Weidman.
Pimblett earned his first Cage Warriors win on the same night Silva faced Weidman for the middleweight title at UFC 162 in July 2013. Meanwhile, McGregor scored a win in his UFC debut, taking on teammate Philippe Malpeter on the same CW card. Pimblett, McGregor and Malpeter watched together as Weidman scored an upset second-round TKO victory over “The Spider”, ending the longest title reign in UFC history. This title lasted 2,457 days, including 10 defenses.
McGregor, a Silva fan, was visibly devastated and continued to kick the wall, which Pimblett tickled.
“When I had my first Cage Warriors match, he had just signed with the UFC. I was 19 years old and had just won my first Cage Warriors match, and he was there,” said Ping. Brett said on the show “Still Talking.” “That night we were watching Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman… I’ll never forget it. I fell asleep on the couch with my head on Philippe Malpeter’s shoulder. I woke up and saw the battle. There were only a few people. He was there with John Kavanagh, McGregor. When Anderson lost, he was boned because he was an Anderson fan. I’ll never forget kicking the wall with [reception]. It was very interesting. ”

After the loss to Weidman, Silva’s career took a downward turn. The former middleweight champion broke his leg in a freak injury in an immediate rematch at UFC 168 later that year. Silva returned for the first time in two years, but the Brazilian only managed a win over Derek Brunson in seven matches before hanging up his gloves for good.
Meanwhile, McGregor continued to build his own legend in the UFC as perhaps the sport’s biggest star. However, the Irishman has dropped three of his last four fights and hasn’t fought since 2021. Most recently, he was found responsible for sexual misconduct against a woman named Nikita Hand in a case dating back to December 2018.
