It appears that the Professional Fighters League will undergo a major rule revision for 2025.
PFL CEO and founder Don Davis announced in a social media post that the promotion will now allow elbow strikes in all matches. In past years, elbows were banned during the PFL season, presumably to avoid cuts and injuries that could prevent competitors from making it through the format.
“New year…new adjustments,” Davis wrote on Monday. “You asked for elbows and the PFL is giving you elbows. All elbows. All fights. Always.”
It is unclear at this time whether Davis’ announcement will coincide with the end of the PFL season format. The organization has not yet announced a 2025 PFL event. So far, the only PFL-related card in progress is Road to Dubai, which will be held on January 25th at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The event is seen as a rebrand of Bellator MMA, which PFL acquired in late 2023, and features a lightweight title fight between Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes.
PFL season typically begins in April, with regional affiliates such as PFL Europe and PFL MENA also holding events throughout the year. The promotion will also see the launch of PFL Africa in the second quarter of this year.
