Dustin Poirier is one of 10 fighters who could face an indefinite suspension immediately following UFC 302.
The New Jersey Athletic Control Board recently released the full list of medical suspensions for the event, which took place last Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. In the evening’s main event, Islam Makhachev defended his lightweight title by submitting Poirier in the fifth round.
Due to the damage sustained in the Octagon, Porier needs clearance from an ENT specialist on his nose and an orthopedic surgeon on his left knee before he can compete again, while Makhachev has been banned for 30 days due to facial lacerations.
Co-main event competitors Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa are among the fighters who received indefinite suspensions at UFC 302. Strickland, who won a split decision over his Brazilian opponent, needs X-rays on his left tibia and clearance from an orthopedic surgeon before returning to action. He will be suspended for a minimum of 30 days and will be banned from contact, while Costa needs clearance on his right ankle and right foot.
