UFC lightweight contestant Renato Moicano used part of his UFC 300 interview to voice concerns about the state of the U.S. economy.
Moicano picked up perhaps the biggest win of his career, defeating Jalin Turner in the preliminary round of UFC 300. He recovered from an early knockdown in the second round and choked Turner with punches for his third straight victory.
As he has done throughout his winning streak, Moicano recorded another viral moment on the microphone during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. He talked about his place in the lightweight division and also took time to talk about America and the economy.
In his postgame speech, Moicano praised Ludwig von Mises and the Austrian-American’s achievements in economics. Von Mises was critical of socialism and a big supporter of free markets.
Renato Moicano explains his much talked about UFC 300 post-fight interview
During an appearance on The MMA Hour after UFC 300, Moicano explained why he felt the need to criticize von Mises and the Austrian School of Economics.
“A lot of people talk to me about money. But the question is not how much money you get, but how much money you can keep,” Moicano said. “What’s going on with inflation…and in this book I explained what the government does with your tax money and how to get out of debt…
“The whole point of capitalism is to have money. But what is the point of inflation? Governments want people to be in poverty, so they can continue the cycle of poverty. …This will destroy not only the rich, but also the middle class…In Brazil, people are obsessed with: [my interview], many people are interested in how people are taxed due to inflation. My message is very important…it is very clear. If we don’t get our debt under control, this country will be ruined. We need a free market of ideas. ”
Moicano has used some of his recent postgame interviews to promote pro-American ideas and positions. He trains with American Top Team in Florida after immigrating from Brazil, Brazil.
Moicano has quickly risen to become one of the biggest fan favorites in the UFC lightweight division. Since he moved to lightweight full-time, he has racked up a number of impressive wins, including bouts over Drew Dober and Brad Liddell.
As his platform continues to expand, Moicano hopes to use his spotlight to help transform the world, especially the United States. In a year of divisive elections, Moicano’s pro-American comments are refreshing, regardless of which side of the political spectrum you are on.
