Rizin Fighting Federation has no plans for a trip to Tokyo this June.
The organization announced the news Friday morning. announcement
A trio of notable combinations will appear at “RIZIN 47” which will be held on June 9th at Yoyogi National Stadium First Gymnasium in Tokyo. The biggest draw will be the bantamweight division, where Sergio Pettis (23-6) and Kyoji Horiguchi (32-5, 1 North Carolina) will compete in a thrilling match in 2021.
Horiguchi and Pettis met for the first time atop Bellator 272, where Pettis defended the Bellator MMA Bantamweight Championship against his Japanese opponent. The American Top Team fighter likely won all three rounds up to the fourth round, but Pettis finished him off with a spinning backfist in a stunning comeback, allowing Sherdog to win the 2021 ‘Knockout of the Year’.・Won the award of “The Year”. Going into this match, Horiguchi had previously held the division belt, but voluntarily surrendered the belt due to injury.
After losing to Pettis, Horiguchi remained under the Bellator banner to compete in the 2022 Bantamweight Grand Prix. Horiguchi ultimately faced tournament winner and champion Patrick Mix, but lost in a close decision. A few months later, he returned to Rizin’s standard-bearer, putting Yuto Tonomura to sleep with an arm triangle, then defeating arch-rival Hiromasa Ogikubo in his first appearance at 125 pounds since 2017. Horiguchi ultimately won his inaugural RIZIN flyweight belt in two appearances. He faced Makoto Takahashi, and the first end was a 25-second eye poke.
Pettis hasn’t fought much since destroying Horiguchi in 2021. Pettis, who missed all of 2022 and half of 2023 with a torn ACL, defended his 135-pound belt against Patricio Freire last year. He staked it again against tournament champion Mix, only for Mix to tap him with a rear-naked choke in the second round. Pettis has appeared in six previous Bellator bouts, and this will be his first under the Rizin banner.
Two other high-stakes tilts are reserved for the Rizin 47 lineup. Former RIZIN featherweight champion Clever Koike Erbst (32-7-1, NC1), who is likely to serve as co-headliner, will take on former RIZIN bantamweight kingpin Juan Archuleta (29-5) at 145 pounds. to play against. In addition, a pair of 145ers will clash as Kalushga Dautbek (14 wins, 3 losses) will aim for his first win in RIZIN against Tetsuya Seki (15 wins, 9 losses, 1 draw), who has relatively experienced promotion.
