“Road to UFC 3” Episode 6 arrives on Friday, continuing the road to the big show for all 10 featured fighters — or maybe in this case, nine.
For the past three seasons, the Road to UFC tournament has focused on Asian prospects, aiming to produce the promotion’s top talent. Essentially, the series is Asia’s answer to Dana White’s Contender Series and The Ultimate Fighter, and is something of a hybrid of the two. The tournament format is similar to TUF, but with an emphasis on fights without being confined to the TUF house.
Friday night’s sixth episode of Road to UFC aired the featherweight and women’s strawweight semifinals, plus a welterweight (now a catchweight) bout that saw former fighter Samandar Muradov return to the show for the second time, teaming up with Jonathan Piersma. At the weigh-in, Piersma was three pounds too heavy, which would certainly hurt his chances of joining the UFC.
