Bo Niccal’s performance at UFC 300 did not impress former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.
Knickal (6-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) advanced to the second round for the first time in his career by submitting Cody Brundage in the main card opener of UFC 300 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena. . Brundage showed some resistance early on, but ultimately Knickal’s grappling and pace became too much.
From that win, Whittaker believes Nickal is not yet ready to move into the upper echelons of the division.
“I think there were some potential holes in Bo Knickal’s game,” Whittaker said on the MMArcade podcast. “Bo Niccal finally has someone he can’t do the things he wants to do with him. Cody Brundage is not the best fighter in the world.
“I think Bo Niccal has done well against guys who can wrestle and hit, and he’s not as good as he used to be because he’s had shoe-ins for him. That’s the reality. Top 10 players I think he has some things to do before he’s ready to fight.”
However, despite criticism from some, Nikkal is ready to test himself against a ranked opponent. After Brundage, the standout wrestler gave a shoutout to No. 12 Anthony Hernandez, who is scheduled to face Roman Dorise at UFC 302 on June 1st.
